The Mitsubishi A6M was a Japanese fighter aircraft used during World War II. It was commonly known as the Zero due to its designation as the Mitsubishi Navy Type 0 carrier fighter. It was designed for speed and maneuverability, making it an effective weapon against slower and less maneuverable Allied aircraft. Its design was inspired by the American Curtiss P-36 fighter plane. The A6M was produced from 1940 to 1945 and saw extensive use in the Pacific theater of war. Despite its success in early years, it became increasingly outmatched by newer Allied fighters and was eventually phased out near the end of the war. The A6M was also used in kamikaze attacks towards the end of World War II.
